Farewell iPod nano. Here comes the iPod nano
This week we should be seeing the brand new hot iPods announced by Steve Jobs last week. While the iPod touch is getting a serious powerup with a retina display and front and rear cameras, the new nano is a bit more complicated.
Don't get me wrong, I am all over the new touchscreen and small clip on design, but there were some sacrifices. Namely, video.
The current gen nano brought a video only camera before the touch even had one. Apple adding and then quickly dropping this feature goes to show how gimmicky the camera was.
More shocking is the loss of video playback. Sure, the screen on the new nano is much smaller and watching video on something that size is sure to cause a headache, but it certainly marks an end of sorts. The new nano is not an upgrade. It's a full redesign. If anything is closer to the shuffle in function. Smaller than the 1G shuffle too. Looks like photos were saved though, so i'm looking forward to college kids replacing all their witty buttons with digital signage this fall.
So this means it's your last chance to grab a full video friendly nano. Looks like they are even on sale (just 1,000 yen off at Yodobashi). I'll kind of miss it too, but not enough to delay my purchase of a shiny new nano.
Who else is going to get a new iPod this week?
